SSAHK PR Director

14 Aug 2025

Last month it was a pleasure to have surgeons from General Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Urology to share their careers at HKU and CUHK.

Our Careers Night 1 was successfully held on 12/8 in CUHK. Our esteemed guests shared their inspiring journey and unique insights with medical students from both HKU and CUHK, especially with senior students who will enter specialty training in a few years’ time. During Careers Night, students gained a clearer understanding of the training pathway and daily routine of general surgeons. They also learned about the surgical procedures performed in the different subspecialties within general surgery.

Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of our co-organizer, the Younger Fellows Chapter (YFC) from the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong (CSHK), younger fellows and surgeons in training were invited to share their clinical experiences. By directly interacting with our guest speakers, participants received valuable career advice.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to our esteemed guest speakers, Dr. Simon Wong, Dr. Rodney Leung and Dr. Manton Woo, who generously shared their profound knowledge and experiences as general surgeons.

Our Careers Night 2 was successfully held on 14/8 in HKU. Our distinguished guests shared their inspiring stories and distinctive perspectives with medical students from both HKU and CUHK, particularly senior students preparing to embark on specialty training in the near future. During the event, participants gained a deeper understanding of the responsibilities of cardiothoracic surgeons and urologists outside the operating theater, including tasks like ward rounds, clinics, and critical care. Furthermore, they were introduced to the physical and mental attributes essential for surgeons in the fields of cardiothoracic surgery and urology.

With the exceptional dedication of our co-organizer, the Younger Fellows Chapter (YFC) from the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong (CSHK), younger fellows and surgeons in training were welcomed to share their clinical experiences. Through direct engagement with our guest speakers, participants received valuable career guidance.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to our incredible speakers, Dr. Clarence Leung, Dr. Adrian Tam, Dr. Ivan Siu and Dr. Matthew Chen, for generously sharing their profound knowledge and experiences as cardiothoracic surgeons and urologists.

We would also like to thank everyone for your active participation! Hope you enjoyed Careers Night I and II!
